Choose Your Diamond
Buying a diamond can be one of the most important purchases in your life but it doesn't have to be difficult. DiamondExchange will take you through it step-by-step making it not only straightforward and fun but also the most cost effective way of buying diamonds.
To choose your perfect diamond we suggest you read our guide below and follow these 4 easy steps:
- Choose Your Diamond Shape
- Choose Your Diamond Size
- Choose Your 4 C's of Diamond Quality
- Choose Your Perfect Diamond
1. Choose Your Diamond Shape
Diamonds are cut in many beautiful shapes. Popular diamond shapes include round, oval, princess cut, emerald cut, Asscher cut, marquise cut, radiant cut, pear shape, and heart shape diamonds. The majority of diamond engagement rings today are set with a round diamond. And the second favorite shape for a diamond in an engagement ring is the square princess cut diamond. Every shape has its own unique characteristics and we recommend you have a quick look at all shapes to see which one you prefer.
2. Choose Your Diamond Size
The size of a diamond is proportionate to its weight. See the chart below to get an idea of the size of diamond that best suits your budget. A wide range of diamond sizes is available within any given budget depending on the characteristics of the diamond, or its 4 C's of quality. Next, you'll be able to narrow this range down when you decide on the quality of your diamond.

3. Choose Your 4 C's of Diamond Quality
The 4 C's of diamond quality are Cut, Colour, Clarity and Carat Weight. To explain these qualities and help you make an informed and confident buying decision DiamondExchange has developed an Education & Guidance section, a summary of which follows.
Cut
The cut of a diamond is the most important aspect determining its sparkle, also called brilliance. Even with perfect colour and clarity, a poor or fair cut can make a diamond look dull. We carry only Ideal, Excellent, Very Good and Good cut diamonds, which produce the most brilliance.
Colour
Colourless diamonds are the most highly valued and are priced accordingly. For the best value, we suggest you choose a colourless or near-colourless diamond that has no noticeable colour, grades D-J. These are the only grades of diamond color offered by DiamondExchange.
Clarity
Diamonds free from internal flaws, or inclusions, are very rare and highly valued. The best value in diamond clarity is a diamond with no inclusions visible to the naked eye. DiamondExchange only offers diamonds graded FL to SI2 (Flawless to Slightly Included 2), which are the clearest diamonds available.
Carat weight
Since large diamonds are rarer than small diamonds, diamond values rise exponentially with carat weight. With a clear understanding of cut, color, and clarity, you can reach a balance between the quality of your diamond and its size.
