Diamond Cuts Explained
The cut of your diamond is its most important characteristic, and Diamond Exchange wants you to understand why.
The cut specifically refers to the angles and proportions created when a diamond cutter transforms the rough diamond into its final polished state. When purchasing a diamond, we highly recommend sticking to the highest available cut grade within your intended budget, simply because the cut of a diamond has the strongest influence on its appearance.

The cut dictates the diamond’s light performance. In other words, the cut is the determining factor behind your diamond’s sparkle (brilliance). A diamond that has been well cut will reflect light internally, from one mirror-like facet to another, dispersing it evenly through the crown (top) of the diamond. If it has been cut too shallow and wide, the diamond will lose light through the bottom. If it has been cut too deep and narrow, the diamond will lose light through its sides.
At Diamond Exchange, you can shop in ease knowing that we only carry diamonds of high quality cut grades, so our stones have maximum brilliance.

Excellent
An exquisite cut, nearly all light entering the diamond is reflected through the top. This produces a level of exceptional brilliance.
Very Good
While the cut is not perfect, most light entering the diamond is still reflected through the top. This produces a level of very high brilliance.
Good
Diamonds of this grade are not as brilliant as those of the first three, but are still very bright.
Fair
Diamonds of this grade have been imperfectly cut so they lose light and are noticeably duller. Diamond Exchange does not carry diamonds of this cut grade.
Poor
Diamonds of this grade have been cut too shallow or too deep, thus losing a lot of light. Diamond Exchange does not carry diamonds of this cut grade.
